As the A890 heads down towards the small village of Auchtertyre there is a section of road where, if you look back on yourself, there is a brief but spectacular view of the ‘Sisters of Kintail’ mountain peaks. I have in my head a particular landscape I wish to shoot from this spot with late winter sun and snow on the peaks. However I chose to stop because for the previous hour of driving I had been enjoying watching the battle between the sun and the cloud being fought throughout my particular corner of the Highlands. A constantly changing landscape of darkness illuminated with shafts of light through the tiniest breaks in the swirling cloud cover. The peaks of the Sisters may have been covered but the light on the lower slopes was just as captivating.
The pictures above and below were taken seconds apart and show that even in such a short time our the cloud is changing form and the patterns from the sun are changing.
And Looking towards Home
Some foreboding cloud but also silver light on Loch Alsh. And all this on a day when by the time I reached Aird, the Sound of Sleat was bathed in sunshine. The camera remained in my bag but the view was enjoyed with a nice glass of Rioja and the company of great friends who were just passing – some 500 miles from their home!!
