The Army have completed their two warm up matches in Brown’s, Portugal with a 31-31 draw agains a Newcastle XV looking to escape the bad weather as they seek to maintain their Aviva Premiership status. For the Army it was an opportunity to re-integrate the talented Isoa Damu Damu from his exploits with England Sevens before they take on the Royal AIr Force at RAF Halton on Wednesday 11 April.
Le Crunch
On the same day the Navy will be completing in the eight addition of Le Crunch. The match is once more to be staged at Toulon’s Stade Mayol, the home of Amlin Semi Finalists RC Toulon. With a crowd of 10,000 again expected the bear pit of a stadium is sure to be at it’s intimidating best. The Marine National website are playing down their chances with a season boasting one draw and two losses. The Royal Navy will believe that at their peril as I am sure the marine National team will be looking to again take courage and passion from Toulon’s famous war cry about the Pilou-Pilou warriors. The French will be looking to rest the Babcock International Challenge Trophy away Navy Rugby and sure that it stays on the South side of ‘La Manche’.

Toulon will also host the first XV-a-side match between the two Navies women’s team. Last season saw a strong Marine Nationale side win comfortably in a 12-a-side fixture. Again the French have a strong team, although they are missing one or two of their key players. Sam Cuff’s Navy team will be looking to build on the good display they produced against Trojans in what has been a very disrupted season.
