Friday 13 April is the anniversary of the last International played by a man unique in the history of both Navy Rugby and England International Rugby. The match was most appropriately (for this week) France v England. Earlier in the season this man had made his England debut playing alongside a fellow Navy international and also a namesake. He had an unbeaten international career during which he won more international caps than Navy caps. Who was he and why is he unique?
Which Rugby Competition do the Army, Navy and Dartmouth Play in?
The answer to this earlier question is the US Collegiate Rugby Union Sevens competition. In US Rugby the US Navy and the US Army’s representative teams are also their Academy College teams. Dartmouth his a non military college that also plays in the competition.
Unfortunately for supporters of all Navy Rugby the US Navy recently hosted the US Army in their annual Army Navy match. Although the Navy had earlier beaten the US Air Force (in September) they were unable to make home advantage pay against the US Army and despite leading late into the match finally succumbed 33-31.
