The Torridon area of the North West Highlands of Scotland is home to some of Scotland’s finest mountains as well as its most ancient landscape. The torridonian sandstone that forms Beinn Alligin, Beinn Eighe and Liatach (amongst others) is only predated by the Lewisian rocks. The Torridonian band of rock runs from Cape Wrath down the west coast of Scotland to my home at Aird, on the Sleat Peninsular, Isle of Skye and also beyond to the ISle of Rum.. The rock is predominantly red and chocolate brown sandstones which takes on the most wonderful warm glow in the evening or morning sun. To the North of Loch Torridon rises Beinn Alligin with its distinctive Horns of Alligin whilst further East runs Liatach with its famous ridge walk, the Pinnacles, and finally the massive mountain of Beinn Eighe. However on the Southern shore is an equally lovely mountain, the Corbett Beinn Damph, an ascent of which gives some of the best views of its Munro neighbours.
