Entente Cordiale 2018

The Emotion of Sport - Dorine was forced to leave the pitch with a fractured ankle. As she sat in the technical area at the side of the pitch it was not the pain of the ankle that forced the tear from her eye but the pain of leaving her friends on the pitch far to early.
At the end of the game the players marked their thanks to a special person with a signed match ball.

One of the highlights of my photographic calendar is a biennial trip to Toulon to photograph the matches between the Marine Nationale and Royal Navy.  These five photographs are my tribute to an eighth consecutive win for RCMN(F) in the Entente Cordial series..  The match was a comfortable win by my focus is not on the action so much but some of the emotion that for me is so much part of sport.

Au Revoir Clemence - The match was the last for RCMN(F) team captain lieutenant de vaisseau Clemence Raphat. With the Entente Cordial trophy under her arm and a commemorative number 5 jersey in her hand she lifts her special ball aloft to accept the thanks and appreciate of her now "former' team mates. She has been a great servant to the Marine Nationale Feminines.
Le talonneur / La Tanneuse - as a former hooker this image caught my eye as once more the RCMN(F) hooker, Maanon Sauvage, was about to do battle in the scrum.
Anguish - a second image of the French hooker. Maanon had done the hard work in breaking the close in defence of the Royal Navy. As she reached for the line and a certain score the ball began to slip from her grasp. Unable to regather, the ball stopped barely a metre from her hands as she let out a cry of frustration with the Navy scrum half, Ollie Critchley looking on.
