Stu Cross – Army Rugby Union – Light & Contrast

Looking Beyond the Image

The original image is from the recent Armee de Terre v British Army match played on the outskirts of Paris.  Lee Crabb of Scrumpix Images was at the game on behalf of Alligin Photography and the Army Rugby Union and produced a set of match images that told the story of the game, a 46-12 victory to the British Army.

I have then chosen one of those images of Army flanker, Stu Cross, and looked to re-work it in post to try and accentuate some of the form of the rugby athlete.  Using the light balance that fell from the flood lights adjustments were made with contrast and saturation to get two different feel to the image which was highlighted through a vignette.  Then a spotlight lens flare was applied in one image with a colour filter to further alter the mood. Three different versions of the same image that can be used to tell different stories.

The work is a continuation of the light project that Alligin Photography is doing in partnership with the Army Rugby Union where we are trying to use light to produce more powerful images that represent the goals and objectives of the Union.
