Fairbrother’s Man of the Match Performance – A Photographic Tribute

The final one of three mini photo essays from the Royal Navy v Marine Nationale (men and women) rugby on Wednesday last.

Up Close and Personal – Dave Fairbrother.  Fairy the feisty eight is used to making headlines – good and bad!  But gradually the pendulum is swinging in his favour and with back to back man of the match performances in the Navy’s last two matches when caps were being awarded you can not deny his importance to the Royal Navy cause.  Lee Crabb, of Scrumpix, kept his lens on him to bring you some of Dave Fairbrother’s best moments.

Relishing the contact as Fairbrother prepares to bump off a would be Marine Nationale defender.
Through the contact.  With one MN player on the ground having already fallen off the tackle the French centre is about to realise that he is going to get the same treatment.
The break made and Fairbrother looks to capitalise.
As the House of Commons Speaker would exclaim – the eyes have it!  Ready with that left hand fend and he faces down the next would be tackler.
An excellent contest in the lineout.  This time Fairbrother comes out on top and the ball is deftly cradled one handed due to interference on his inside arm.
A little too late in the game unfortunately but Fairbrother powers over for the Royal Navy’s second try of the night.
Scrum time and some rueful contemplations.  Always good to be on the scorecard, even better to have kept clear of the referee and his yellow cards.  Any work ons for the 5th April?  There is always work to do and things to improve but after such an otherwise around excellent performance it would be unfair to mention about the ball in two hands at times – just to take advantage of overlaps!  The Royal Navy will want Dave at his best when they play next as it is in the opening round of the 2017 Inter Services, agains the RAF at RAF Halton.  Dave, congratulations of a great performance and winning your tenth RN cap.
