Basking Sharks No More

Whilst not yet in the category of Tiger Sharks or Great Whites the Navy Sharks have certainly left behind their Wild Boar Sevens lethargy and produced some much improved performances at the West Country Sevens.

The story of the day was one of giving their first opponents too much respect, well beating their second opponents, losing to the well drilled Carmarthen Warriors but making them work hard for the win and losing a quarter final bowl match which they know they have the talent and capability to win.  If they can make equal strides forward for the Newquay Sevens in two weeks time then Sam Cuff should be a satisfied coach.

Jon Humphreys again was a try scoring threat, Coopz provided some solid go forward and Tom Davies made some telling contributions……………

New and ‘old’ talent blended well in a much more balanced sevens side.  Ollie James providing inside support to Ben Ward’s break

British Army are West Country Winners – Congratulations

The Army won the tournament beating UK Allstars 22-19 in the final.  They had coasted through the group stages, barely getting out of second gear, before stepping up the intensity during the knockout stages.

All to often the Army’s opponents were chasing shadows

Congratulations – RCMN Win Championship

The French Air Force proved to be no match for the Marine Nationale team who won their final championship match 31-6 to be comfortable and deserved French Inter Service champions regaining the crown they let slip last year.  Acedo was again amongst the try scorers with that  scourge of the Royal Navy in Toulon, Romain Lombard again kicking the goals.  The French Navy are won of the view Navies around the world to currently hold their Inter Service crown.

Earlier this year the Australian Army gained revenge over the Australian Breakers and won a hard fought encounter by a single score.  Hopefully this will not galvanise the Australian Navy team too much before they host the next Commonwealth Cup in October 2012.
