Celtman Dirk Zangen wins and breaks two Celtman Records

Tenth behind Graham Stewart in 2013, Dirk Zangen knocked the best part of 2 hours 20 minutes of his previous best to win the 2015 Celtman xTri in a time of 11 hours 51 minutes 14 seconds.  In so doing he set a new best time for the cycle section and became the male veterans Celtman xTri record holder.

A lovely sunny day looking out on to the Sound of Sleat, off Slye’s South East coast.  The weekend will once more be spent over at Torridon following one of my favourite events in the sporting calendar.  Hopefully the weather will hold for all the competitors.  Click on the image for a look back at a remarkable story from last year’s event.

Celtman – Third Edition

Ten to three in the morning and competitors are beginning to set their bikes up at T1 ready for the third running of Celtman.

It is a ‘simple’ test of extreme physical and mental endurance that consists of :

Swim (Loch Shieldaig)

Fastest swim - Johan Nykvist [2012 Celtman]

Fastest swim – Johan Nykvist [2012 Celtman]

Cycle (Shieldaig to Strath Carron via Gairloch)

Fastest Cycle (Women) - Susanne Buckenlei - 6:51:03 [2012 Celtman]

Fastest Cycle (Women) – Susanne Buckenlei – 6:51:03 [2012 Celtman]

Run (Coulin Pass and Beinn Eighe)

Fastest Run - Johan Hasselmark 4:41:19 [2013 Celtman - 2nd in 2013]

Fastest Run – Johan Hasselmark 4:41:19 [2013 Celtman – 2nd in 2013]

Conditions seem a little better than 2014 but a very long and tough day for all the competitors  who hopefully will enjoy some of Scotland’s finest scenery.  Everyone who completes Celtman is a winner it is just that someone finishes first.

Good luck today to all Celtman 2014 competitors and support crew.  I hope to see you on the route throughout the day.  Images should be available on line from Monday.

Let battle commence.

Best Strike Force on Show

The Royal Navy U23 rugby team were the focus of my attention yesterday and they had an impressive strike force in their back three of captain Matt Horton @ fullback and wingers Eldon Meyer and Ben Clarke.

However I managed to grab a couple of shots from the road on my way to the game of the many Red Kites that hunt between High Wycombe and Aylesbury.

Even though it was quite a windy day they maintained their majestic grace in the air.

They were probably the best strike force on show during the day.

Celtman – Hall of Fame

This page is dedicated to those who have won Celtman or have recorded a fastest time on an individual component of the Celtman Extreme Triathlon.  I have tried to be as accurate as possible but if you believe there is an error then please get in touch and I will correct the page.  I also wish to acknowledge that conditions play a huge part in such an event and accept that the course has subtly changed each year, however the details below provide an indication of who achieved what and when within the Celtman competition.
