RNRU Three Peaks Challenge raises £8500 for BLESMA and RNRMC

It was entirely appropriate that a charity event inspired by former Royal Marine and Navy Rugby player Aaron Moon’s courage in the aftermath of his bomb blast injuries sustained in Afghanistan should present the cheques in Admiral Horatio Nelson’s Great Cabin on board HMS Victory.  BLESMA, the charity dedicated to assisting former and current service men and women whom have sustained the loss of limbs, would certainly have been of assistance to the Royal Navy’s most famous admiral.

Joining Two Legends of Navy Rugby

Dewi Bebb, two caps playing for the Royal Navy, thirty one appearances for the British Lions including eight test matches.  Four appearances for the Barbarians and thirty four caps for Wales is the Royal Navy’s most capped international.  Second on the list is Malcolm Thomas who sadly passed away earlier this year.  Malcolm played six times for the Royal Navy and a staggering sixteen times for the Barbarians as well as thirty two occasions for the British Lions of which four were test matches.  During his international career he played twenty seven times for Wales.  And third on the list?

ADF Warriors Remember Scott Smith in Emphatic Style

The Royal Air Force Women and Australian Defence Force Women united in a minutes silence and reflection for colleagues who have given the ultimate sacrifice and in particular for 24 year old Cpl Scott Smith, a combat engineer with the ADF, who sadly died on Sunday from a bomb blast sustained in Afghanistan.

The misty conditions at RAF Halton were appropriate to the sombre mood prior to the kick off when both teams gave silent tribute to fallen comrades.  However when the game did start the Aussies brought with them their own Gold Coast sunshine as they played a simple but very effective brand of rugby to deservedly win the opening match of the 2012 UK tour.
