Infinity Park, Denver, Colarado sees the International Defence Sevens with the Royal Air Force and British Army joining two Australian Army teams, the French Armed Forces, the US Coast Guard, US Marine Corps, US Air Force, US Army and US Navy in the ten team tournament. The pool matches were held yesterday with today being finals day.
The Royal Air Force Spitfires started day one with a 14-14 draw against the French Armed Forces before losing out to the Australian Army Gold Team 33-12 and then being well beaten by the British Army 47-0. Fortunately they finished the day with a victory over the Australian Army Green Team 34-7 to make the International Consolation Match which will be against the Australian Army Gold Team.
For the British Army it was an unbeaten day and they are the only side in the tournament with a 100% record. They posted four comfortable victories against the gold version of their Australian counterparts 31-5, the green version 33-0 along with the victory of the RAF and a 40-0 win over the French Armed Forces. The British Army will again play the French Armed Forces for the International Championship on Sunday morning.
Also on Sunday morning will be the US Championship match. The Army Navy game is regretably only for the Consolation Trophy and those of a UK Navy blue hue will need to cheer on the US Marine Corps who take on the US Air Force in the Championship match.
The tournament will finish with all eight leading teams from day one playing for the Gold and Bronze medals. The format is that the top two of each league play for gold. This should see the British Army taking on the US Air Force and the US Marine Corps. The RAF Spitfires can progress towards a bronze medal but will need to beat both the US Army and US navy to do so.
